Digital Art & Design

Course Description

[Formerly called Imaging (2017-18) or Photo Imaging (2016-17)]
In Digital Art and Design, students will work both collaboratively and independently to build a foundation on concepts such as the elements of art, principles of design, and photography, while working with industry standard software and tools used to create digital art such as cameras, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. General computer experience is recommended, but no prior knowledge of the particular software programs used in the class is required. This is a project based course in which students will be able to develop their skills and succeed by pushing themselves at every step of the design process.

Classroom Setting:
This class requires a combination of dynamic collaboration with peers as well as focused independent work throughout. It favors a self motivated student that is able to communicate effectively with peers in a professional design studio environment. During independent work, students may be exploring campus with a camera or working with computer software and are expected to maintain focus and avoid distractions. Students will be using expensive technology and equipment and are expected to treat the equipment with the utmost care and respect at all times. Failure to do this will result in loss of privileges or access to technology. Students are also expected to uphold high standards for behavior and professionalism to maintain a safe, positive, creative classroom environment. See course syllabus for more detailed information.

Recommended Foundation

Basic computer experience expected, but no prior experience in Photography or Adobe software is necessary.
